Measles

North Dakota has had 9 confirmed cases of the measles. Measles is a self-limiting childhood viral infection.  Measles typically starts off with cold like symptoms until a rash appears on days 4-10 of the illness.  Measles is contagious during the initial stage and for days 3-4 after rash onset. Most cases are benign and not reported to the public health department. For more information click on the following links.

Before the measles vaccination program, almost everyone contracted measles and obtained lifetime immunity by the age of 15.  The MMR Vaccines can and do cause side effects including a raised blotchy rash, feeling unwell along with a high temperature 7-11 days after vaccination.
